Principal – Elementary Summer School

PURPOSE

 

The summer school principal will coordinate with the current principal and run the summer school program in their building with special emphasis given to staff supervision and instructional feedback, summer school schedule development, provide teachers with necessary professional development, and maintain student discipline. Students will be in session June 2 - June 27, 2025

 

(Administrators are paid for the days they work plus the one extra day for building meeting, open house, etc.. Juneteenth and 4th of July are not paid holidays for summer school. Hourly staff are only paid for the days they work.)

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

Student Performance – Ensure school organization, attendance procedures and materials are explained and distributed to teachers before the beginning of the summer program. Ensure attendance and any assessment results are accurately recorded on the Infinite Campus system. Conduct frequent classroom walkthroughs and provide feedback that simulates teacher reflection. Responsible for positive student results as reflected in the final building summary.

School Design – Participate in Winter/Spring planning meetings with District personnel. Facilitate successful enrollment and scheduling of the students by collaborating with counselors, special education case managers, ELL coordinator and liaisons, IITS manager and office personnel. Facilitate/participate in professional development as determined by the District. Plan and conduct an organizational meeting for summer staff. Organize and implement a Positive Behavioral Support system. Facilitate successful acquisition and distribution of student incentives both during and at the completion of the summer program.

Customer Satisfaction – Plan and implement strategies designed to communicate scheduling, transportation, and program expectations to parents and students. Distribute parent and staff survey information and submit results at the completion of the summer program. Responsible for positive survey results as reflected in the final building summary.

Financial Management – Manage payroll and submit required forms to ensure timely, accurate payment of employees. Responsible for maintaining accurate student attendance records and ensuring students receive appropriate incentive cards.

School Operations – Complete all core data and student attendance information accurately and submit by the required dates. Monitor enrollment numbers and adjust staffing as necessary to maintain an ADA of 20:1 student to teacher ratio. Complete checkout requirements and submit all required documents at the end of the program.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To:        Coordinator of Summer School, Assistant Superintendent

 

Supervises:        Summer School building staff

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:  Admin. Certification, or successful completion of at least one semester of coursework in an admin certification program, or experience in building leadership.

 

Preferred: Aspiring Admin; Principal K-8 Certification preferred, Five years classroom teaching experience preferred with a strong knowledge base in elementary education.  Administrative experience preferred.

Technology: Access and create reports using the District’s student information software and databases; Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media; Access and present information from online sources in a manner that enhances instruction; lead and monitor students as they perform online research; Instruct in buildings/classes where students are actively using 1-to-1 technology such as laptop computers, iPads, and other devices; Lead students in creating and presenting multi-media projects when such assignments enhance student learning; Use district software for recording grades and finding student information; Readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district; Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use. These are essential functions of the job.

 

Physical Demands: Must frequently move in and around the building and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings, and supervise bus loading and unloading and also be able to sit for an hour or more at a time.  The position requires the ability to hear conversations in a noisy environment. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.  The individual who holds this position will be expected to attend Board meetings, student activities and events, and IEP meetings. Attendance at events occurring on weekends or in evening hours will be required. These are essential functions of the job.

Conditions and Environment:  The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. This position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours. These are essential functions of the job.
