PURPOSE

 

This position is for summer school 2024 only. Summer school dates are May 30 – June 26, 2024. There is no school on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, which is the Juneteenth holiday.

Teachers are paid for the days they work plus one extra day (May 29, 2024) for building meetings, open house, etc.

This position is for a teacher who will design and implement reading and writing intervention for English Learner students in elementary or secondary EL programs.  The teacher will work with refugee and EL students in small group instruction, pushing into the regular classroom, and/or co-teaching with the classroom EL teacher(s).

Note: All duties described in this job description are intended to be fulfilled either in online or in-person classes, or a combination of both, as determined by student and district need.

Reports To:        Director of English Learners and Migrant Education and building principal(s)

 

Supervises:        N/A

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:  Appropriate academic preparation to be certified by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

 

Certification:  Valid Missouri Substitute or Teaching Certificate in appropriate content area is required.  MO K-12 ESOL and/or K-12 Special Reading Teacher Certification preferred.

 

Experience: Prior teaching experience either at the elementary or secondary level preferred. Bilingual preferred. Prior experience as a Title I teacher, reading interventionist, literary specialist, literacy coach, or other literacy-related teaching positions preferred. Prior experience teaching English Learners preferred. Familiarity with standardized tests, ability to analyze data, and experience with special education would be considered assets. Excellent computer skills required.  Knowledgeable in SIOP and/or other best practices for EL learning.

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active.  Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
