PURPOSE
The Columbia Public School District is seeking a Principal for West Middle School. The principal shall be committed to student achievement, enrichment, and opportunities for all learners. The principal shall have the responsibility for planning, administering, coordinating, implementing, supervising and evaluating all educational activities. The principal will create a climate of trust, respect, and collaboration among all stakeholders in a manner that values and supports their strengths and enhances progress toward goals within the context of middle school.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The Principal will conduct the following administrative responsibilities:
- Facilitate access to all children of West Middle School to opportunities within and outside of the classroom and creatively think about how to best support the needs of our students.
- Articulate and inspire a shared vision of learning that supports all students within a culture of dignity.
- Implement and supervise instructional programs that engage all learners and accelerate achievement.
- Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service and a working environment that fosters communication and collaboration.
- Supervise operations and personnel at school level.
- Hire, support, and supervise all assistant principals, teachers, and staff in school.
- Observe, support, and conduct informal and formal evaluations of teaching and administrative staff to promote continuous learning and improvement of professional practice by maintaining a visible presence and engagement in classrooms.
- Promote the use of instructional technology to meaningfully enhance 21st century instruction and learning; use technology to meaningfully communicate with students, parents, and community patrons.
- Establish and consistently maintain disciplinary policies for the school that ensure a safe, respectful learning environment.
- Uphold and promote equity within the building for staff and students.
- Plan and implement comprehensive, inclusive extra-curricular programs for the school.
- Maintain positive community and parent relations that promote active engagement in a welcoming environment.
- Oversee use of facility, scheduling classes and activities.
- Manage and monitor the budget for the school.
- Understand, adhere to, and oversee compliance with Board policies and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master's Degree in School Administration, Specialist or Doctorate preferred
Certification: Missouri Principal Certificate
Experience: Successful classroom teaching experience and a minimum of three years’ experience as secondary principal or assistant principal.

ADA REQUIREMENTS
Language: Present information to teachers, staff, other administrators, and the Board of Education. Respond to common questions and concerns. Interview students, staff, and teachers. Read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, memoranda, policies, administrative procedures, and statutes. Write business correspondence, including staff memoranda and newsletter articles. Keep information confidential when required by law, policy, or the nature of a particular situation.
Computation: Work with mathematical concepts, such as probability and statistical inference, and analyze data for instruction. Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning: Solve a variety of problems in many different situations. Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement.
Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media. Access and create reports using the District’s student information software and databases. Readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district. Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use.
Physical demands: Frequently move in and around the building and grounds to visit classrooms, attend meetings, and supervise bus loading and unloading and also be able to sit for an hour or more at a time. The position requires the ability to hear conversations in a noisy environment. Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position including attend Board meetings, student activities and events, and IEP meetings. Attendance at events occurring on weekends or in evening hours will be required.
Environmental conditions: The work environment is consistent with a typical office environment; however, they will occasionally be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. The individual who holds this position is frequently required to work irregular or extended hours.
